On Tuesday, March 9, 2004 N.E.W.
hosted the 12th "Executive Woman of
the Year" [EWOTY] Awards and Program. EWOTY bestows recognition on
Tampa Bay area women who have achieved
power and influence while also displaying a commitment to the advancement
of women and the community at large. In addition to this prestigious
award, an exciting program and speaker was included.
Distinguished
Speaker at this Event: (shown directly

Susan Antilla, award winning columnist with
Bloomberg News, and author of "Tales from the Boom-Boom Room: Women vs. Wall
Street." She was formerly with the New
York Times, and has also written for the Baltimore Sun, Mirabella,
and Town & Country. Taking its name from the notorious party room
at a Smith Barney branch on Long Island, Tales from the Boom-Boom
Room is a deeply researched look into the widespread sexual
harassment and sex discrimination that has permeated Wall Street
firms. |

Congratulations, Pallavi
Patel, M.D., CEO Bay Area Primary Care. Winner of the 2004 Executive
Woman of the Year Award

Dr. Patel is an unpretentious
person who will totally impress you within the first 10 minutes of
talking to her. She is keenly aware of the inherent goodness of the
people and the balance of life around her. Her global perspective
and commitment to the empowerment of people drive her daily life.
Our recipient was born to a socially active family. Her father was
both a lawyer and a businessman who worked very hard for the
empowerment of all people, especially women. He had a profound
influence on our recipient’s decision as to her future.
Pallavi Patel, M.D. came to the Tampa Bay area in 1982 where she
began her business. From the first, our 2004 EWOTY recruited women
with special needs to work in her business. By creating
opportunities for struggling, entry-level professionals who
exemplified service and care, she has been able to build a highly
committed and qualified team that serves thousands of people
annually. One of her managers states that “we would do anything
for her,” “she has such compassion for everyone…”
Our recipient’s interests have not been limited to simply building a
successful business. In 1989 she helped co-found the Annul Indian
Festival at the University of South Florida. She is a role model in
her community. She often serves as an informal mentor to young
Indian women who are trying to adapt to their new home in the Tampa
Bay area. Most Decembers, she can be found in India where she
coordinates medical missions to help the poor and disenfranchised.
In these desperate areas of the world, she, along with her husband,
have repeatedly led and contributed to disaster relief efforts.
